Lucky Dance Theatre presents a double bill set to bring food for thought

shadow-webOn Friday 25 July, Lucky Dance Theatre presents the duet Reflexion (Voice of the Black Soul) and the premiere of Shadow Graves.

Shadow Graves gathers six women from different countries, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, France and South Africa, brought together by Lucky Dance Theatre to create the work that really questions the norms and prejudices towards women in Africa and in global society: Rape Culture –  rape myths (attitudes and believes about rape and sexual assault that help fuel this rape culture. Theses widely held, culture-based beliefs may place blame on rape victims, excuse the actions of perpetrators, or blur the line between rape and consensual sex).

The creation explores the victim’s spirit shadowed by the heaviness of the rape event, and the grave society digs for them. The concept was inspired by the actual events happened against women and children in DRC, South Africa, India, Ethiopia, and any other places around the world where women are ganged rape and survivors are left with disturbing images of brutal events.

Reflexion is an extract of Voice of the Black Soul. The duo explores the traces of our reflections. We are ashamed of who we are, where we live and where we coming from. “You think of yourselves as humans searching for a spiritual awakening, when in fact you are spiritual beings attempting to cope with a human awakening, seeing yourselves from the perspective of the spirit within will help you to remember why you came here and what you came here to do” – Unleashed Mind
