Malian music legend "Vieux" Farka Touré; on tour in SA

The legendary Malian singer and guitarist Boureima "Vieux" Farka Touré will give two exceptional concerts in SA in January, the first at Bassline in Jo'burg (January 18th, 2013) and the second at the Rainbow Jazz Club in Durban (January 20th, 2013). Sometimes dubbed the "Hendrix of the Sahara", "Vieux" Farka Touré was born in Mali in 1981, the son of Grammy-winning Malian musician Ali Farka Touré. Despite his father's discouragement, Touré soon secretly took up the guitar.

He eventually released his self-titled début album in 2007, featuring Toumani Diabaté as well as his late father. Having extensively toured Africa, Europe and America, "Vieux" released his second studio album in 2009, "Fond", and his third one, "The Secret" in 2011. "The Secret" was produced by Soulive’s Eric Krasno and featured Dave Matthews, John Scofield, Derek Trucks and Vieux’s final collaboration with his father, Ali Farka Touré. Both albums have been acclaimed by critics and public alike. Supporting "Vieux" Farka Toure at Bassline will be the new Sony signing and a long time favourite of the Alliance française's public, SA songwriter Bongeziwe Mabandla.

"Vieux" Farka Touré - Johannesburg (Bassline): 18 January 2013 and Durban (Rainbow Jazz Club): 20 January 2013 - With the support of the French Institute in South Africa (IFAS), the Alliance française network in SA and the Bassline
