Daniel Mille and the Buskaid Ensemble at the Orbit, 29 June 2016

Daniel Mille Buskaid - June 29

Buskaid’s upcoming collaboration with Daniel Mille marks a series of ‘firsts’ for the Soweto String Ensemble. This will be the first time the world famous orchestra plays with an accordionist, the first time they play Astor Piazzolla’s music and their first performance at the Orbit.

Over the years Buskaid have collaborated with some very distinguished classical musicians and they are proud to add Daniel Mille to this line-up of international artists. Daniel Mille is one of France’s most respected award-winning accordion players. Over the years he performed alongside many a star of the French chanson (Barbara, Claude Nougaro…) as well as playing and recording his own music with the “A Team” of the French jazz scene.

Piazzolla’s music is unlike anything else the Buskaid musicians have played before, and its irresistible tango rhythms and sensual improvisatory melodies produced smiles of delight from the young players. From the moment rehearsals started with Daniel Mille, there was the most wonderful air of excitement in the room.

The programme of The Orbit concert will comprise pieces composed by Astor Piazzolla featuring Daniel Mille and the Buskaid string ensemble, pieces by the Buskaid String orchestra and pieces by Daniel Mille with Stéphane Chausse on clarinet.

Daniel Mille and Stéphane Chausse will also perform at the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in Grahamstown on Friday 01 and Saturday 02 July.

Presented by the Alliance française of Johannesburg and IFAS
