In August Rio called for our country’s top athletes, but before everybody was watching in suspense, Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria (AHMP) hosted the quadrennial French Olympic Games. On 30 July AHMP, Die Hoërskool Menlopark, Hoërskool Waterkloof, Pretoria High School for Girls and Pretoria Boys High gathered in competitive spirit for the title of Pretoria’s French champions.
A total of 350 learners from 5 schools and 11 French teachers took part in this event.
Each grade competed in a different category. The grade 8’s used basic vocabulary and abundance of enthusiasm to dominate in the waiter marathon and war-cry competition. The grade 9’s braced themselves for a thorough examination of their general French knowledge. The grade 10’s took inspiration from well-known French artists to create their very own French songs. The grade 11’s surprised with their knack for theatre with French flair, while the gr. 12’s proved them worthy to participate in real debate.
At last, after a busy morning of showcasing French skills, Menlopark was crowned as the overall winners! Then it was time to celebrate and enjoy a picnic with French delicacies and lovely company under the trees
