Music Day

In partnership with The Bioscope and Pata Pata, the Alliance française of Johannesburg organize the MUSIC DAY!!

Completely different from a music festival, the "MUSIC DAY" is above all a free popular fête, open to any participant who wants to perform in it. This Music day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularize musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to share a very special moment through music.

Performance – The Giant Match Association – From 12.30 pm

 

Two larger than life puppets accompanied by musicians will open the festivities with a parade in front of Main Street life. The Giant Match Association is a street theatre organization which features 33 giant puppets, masks and objects built from recycled materials.

Nancy Ginindza (Folk Rock / Soul made in Swazi !) – 1 pm
Swazi Born, artiste Nancy Ginindza, who at the age of 24 has accumulated skills and talents many dream of being able to express has a unique and universal sound, which crosses the boundaries  of colour as well as culture, whilst hitting home in matters of the heart.

TBC – 2 pm

UJU (Alternative Afro Beat made in Jozi ! ) – 3pm
The band fuses a musical heritage of Indie Rock, Ragga, Dub and Hip-Hop with a spiritual connection to Zulu traditions and protest folk. Combined with lyrical content that speaks to a generation that is lost to a turbulent past while facing an uncertain future, Uju delivers a new urban sound that is both challenging yet familiar.

DJ Set – 6.15 pm

Screening at the Bioscope – 4.15 pm
