Novembre Numérique Game Jam

2020-NN-CallGameJam-FB-extended

Collaborate with South African games industry experts to make a video game in 72 hours

12 – 15 November 2020 / ONLINE

IFAS (French Institute of South Africa) is proud to announce that their first NN GAME JAM will be happening as part of their Novembre Numerique programme in 2020. From the 12th to the 15th of November, be part of one of the teams that will be selected to create video games under the mentorship and guidance of South African game industry experts. This Jam aims to bring together a large and inclusive network of creators, authors, journalists, directors, game designers and developers to work as a team and share their skills. We welcome any students, professionals, and freelancers from the creative industries for a fun opportunity to learn new skills and network with each other.
NB: In order to be as inclusive as possible, teams selected will be balanced across gender, race, and experience level.

Main objective of the Jam? Make games together, meet people, learn, have fun!

How to participate:

The event is free, however each participant will be selected from a call for application as the number of teams is limited.
Sign up from the 21st September to the 12th October via this registration link: https://forms.gle/UduZAfZ1YLimM9Xw6

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 23 OCTOBER 2020

Rules and values of the Jam:

1. Participants and mentors must be kind to each other
Everyone is allowed to go at their own pace.
Respect between each person involved in the Jam is mandatory.
Each participant must abide by the Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy enforced for this event.

2. This Game Jam is not a competition
This Game Jam is 72 hours long to give participants a timeline and structure in which they should be available if they want to get the most of it. Therefore mentors will only be available during this time.
There won't be a prize at the end.
The goal is to finish in time to be able to showcase your game to a professional gamer/international audience for them to play.

3. Communicating and sharing knowledge is essential
This Jam requires participants to work as teams.
Mentors and participants will be there to exchange and share their expertise.
The purpose of this jam is to collaborate to learn how to create something new and explore new ways to do things.

4. Everyone is allowed to apply
Team size is limited but the selection committee will choose participants from different backgrounds and not only from the gaming industry.
Students are welcome to apply
Consider creatives from any industry as potential game creators.

Thank you to ARTE, A MAZE. , Wits Digital Arts, Fak'ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival, Tshimologong Precinct, IESA, Make Games South Africa and many others for their great advice and help!
