French film Les Misérables has been released in South Africa on 17 January, by Videovision Entertainment through United International Pictures (Africa), in eleven participating cinemas in Cape Town, Durban, Joburg and Pretoria. The film has been on a winning streak since it has won the prestigious Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival last year, as well as winning the Best International Film and Best Screenplay awards at the Durban International Film Festival. Les Misérables has now been selected for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. Inspired by the Paris riots of 2005, witnessed first-hand by director Ladj Ly, Les Misérables revolves around three members of an anti-crime brigade who are overrun while trying to make an arrest.

The film is showing in Rosebank Nouveau, Hyde Park, Parkview, Montecasino, Brooklyn Nouveau, V&A Nouveau, Tygervalley, Somerset Mall, The Labia, Gateway, the Pavilion.
