CTIAF2

The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is proud to announce its participation in this year's Cape Town International Animation Festival, which is to be held from 8 to 10 March at The River Club in Observatory, Cape Town. The festival promotes collaboration between the French and South African animation industries.

IFAS welcomes the prestigious School of Images Gobelins (Ecole des Gobelins) to participate in this year's festival. Special guests Cécile Blondel, Head of International Relations, and Moïra Marguin, Head of Animation at Gobelins, will be in attendance.

The festival will be opened with a screening of "Dilili in Paris", directed by Academy Award-winner Michel Ocelot. The line producer of the film, Eve Machuel, will join us for the opening and on Sunday 10 March for a discussion.

ABOUT THE CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL

Cape Town Animation Film Festival is the only animation festival on the African continent. It offers a competition of feature films and short films, workshops, masters classes, conferences, workshops, networking sessions and an exhibition space. The festival offers South African animators an opportunity to network with professionals from other African countries and major international markets.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF IMAGES GOBELINS

For almost 50 years, Gobelins has been a global reference in the fields of visual creation from image design to image production. Their areas of expertise are animated filmmaking, graphic and motion design, photography, interactive design, printed and digital communication, video gaming, video and sound. In February 2019, their graduation film "Best Friend", selected at the Annie Awards 2019 in Los Angeles (the Oscars equivalent regarding Animation) won the "Best Student Film" prize.

In 2019, Gobelins and Tshimologong Precinct have started collaborating on a curriculum to develop the first animation programme in Johannesburg, within the Digital Content Hub.
