The French Institute of South Africa renews its partnership with A MAZE., the 5th International Games and Playful Media Festival, to take place from the 31st of August to the 3rd of September 2016 in Johannesburg.

For the 5th year A MAZE. welcomes African and international game developers, digital artists, forward thinkers, entrepreneurs, and digital activists to Johannesburg to exchange tools, skills, and ideas in the fields of independent games and playful media. Workshops, talks, parties, and a games arcade featuring the pick of African and international independent games and playful media.

In the context of its mission to strengthen links between South African and French Video Game industries, IFAS is proud to support the participation of two French Video Game developers, Brice Roy and Paul Clarissou. Both of them will be running specific workshops during the festival.

Brice Roy is bringing the game La discipline du rectangle (playing with rectangles), a participatory digital art exhibition. Digital artist, Co-founder of the collective One Life Remains, Brice Roy is specialized in the field of artistic videogames. Among other works, he is the author of Générations, and Gigantomachie.

Paul Clarissou is presenting the game Orchids to Dusk; a short networked wandering experience about an astronaut stranded on an alien planet, with only a few minutes left to live. Paul is a developer and artist who likes to experiment with games as a medium, and play with the tools and processes of digital arts. Even the Stars and Orchids to Dusk are the biggest amongst the many shortform gamelike experiences he's released, while also toying around with weird hardware, tiny zines, or whatever grabs his fancy.
