South African animation in Annecy !
For the first time, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival (10-15 June) will host a South African pavilion under Animation SA and NFVF banner. Over 30 delegates will be at the number one animation festival and market in the world to showcase South African talent. This delegation is part of the South African Season in France.
For the first time also, South Africa is represented in the festival official competition with Khumba, the second feature animation film produced by Triggerfish studio after the international box office hit Zambezia. Both films will be released in France later this year.
The strong presence of South African in Annecy this year is a true reflection of the SA animation industry development and global exposure. It is also a result of its strengthening links with the French industry and a follow-up of last year French participation to Kunjanimation festival and conference program. As a platform for South Africa/France partnership in animation, Kunjanimation 2012 hosted screenings and workshops with the internationally renowned "Ecole des Gobelins" and a French animation delegation composed of producers and studios. This will be repeated towards the end of this year as a second leg of the annual SA/France exchanges started with a bang at Annecy 2013!
