"Naissance d'un pont", last book of the French author Maylis de Kerangal

New at Dibuka!

Maylis de Kerangal’s last novel entitled "Naissance d’un pont" won her the Prix Médicis in November 2010.

The Prix Médicis is a French literary award which was created in 1958. It rewards promising young authors whose writing tone and style are original and whose fame does not yet match their talent. The Prix is awarded for three categories: “French novel, short story or accounts”, “Foreign novels” and “Essays”.

Maylis de Kerangal worked at leading French publisher Gallimard on tourist guides then youth literature before editing for French publisher Le Baron Perché. She published her first novel entitled "Je marche sous un ciel de traîne" in 2000, followed by "La vie voyageuse" in 2003, "Ni fleurs ni couronnes" in 2006 and "Corniche Kennedy" in 2008.

"Naissance d’un pont" relates the construction of a suspended bridge in the imaginary town of Coca in California. The town is surrounded by a river, a forest and a valley of red causse. The new mayor would like to put the town on the map by building a bridge that would open the town to the rest of the world. The story takes place on a building site and follows the life of several employees...
