The Fête de La Musique held in Melville in 2013 was celebrated by more than 10,000 people and was one of the main events of the French season in South Africa 2012. Based on last year’s success, the event promises to offer a wider range of music and other activities in 2014.

As per last year’s edition, the street will be brought to life with live performances along 7th Street, turned into a pedestrian friendly zone for music-lovers to truly enjoy the live music performances within restaurants and bars and on various stages.

The “Fête de La Musique”, Melville Music Day, welcomes everyone, including families. It is a fun and exciting showcase of diverse local, amateur or professional musicians, and international music, celebrated in a safe and inclusive atmosphere that brings communities together in a popular and free event.

We reveal the musical line up you can expect on the day!

International artists include:

- Lo Griyo (FR/Reunion Island), in Creole or the Transmitter (the keeper of the oral tradition), is a new expression of the contemporary music created by fusing several musical styles of traditional and modern music such as maloya, African musics of trance, music gnaoua or gnawa, salegy, Brazilian music and jazz among others.

- Solorazaf (Madagascar): One-man band, Miriam Makeba’s former lead guitar, the French-Malagasy guitarist Solorazaf illuminates the stage by his presence and by the sounds he produces with his mouth, his feet and even his nostrils and of course with his guitar with which he is a virtuoso.

- Didier Labbé Quartet featuring Tlale Makhene (FR/SA): Established around 10 years ago, the Didier Labbé Quartet has performed over 300 concerts in France and abroad, produced five repertoires and recorded 4 albums. In 2010, the quartet left the Mediterranean to the African continent to perform "Echo to Abdullah Ibrahim", a tribute to the South African composer and pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. This creation highlights some compositions of the South African pianist also known as Dollar Brand, which constitutes a source of Didier Labbé's inspiration to compose an original repertoire "echoing" the music of Abdullah Ibrahim.

- Baenz Oester and the Rainmakers (Switzerland/ SA): Led by Swiss bassist Bänz Oester, the band Rainmakers comprises Swiss reedman Ganesh Geymeier and two South Africans, pianist Afrika Mkhize and drummer Ayanda Sikade.
