State visit to South Africa successfully concluded by President Hollande

On 14 and 15 October 2013 President François Hollande undertook a State visit to South Africa.

President Hollande met with president Zuma and both head of states reaffirmed our two countries’ commitment to strengthen our strategic partnership, reinforce our political and economic ties and cooperate on numerous matters.

After a fruitful tête-à-tête and a joint press conference at the Union Buildings President Hollande visited Freedom Park in Pretoria to commemorate those who have died in pursuit of freedom in South Africa. He then joined Presdent Zuma at a French South African business forum in Sandton, where a major agreement between Alstom of France and Prasa of South Africa was signed.

After a reception with the French community at the Ambassadorial residence the President was then invited to a State Banquet hosted by President Zuma at the Presidential Guesthouse.

On day two of the visit President Hollande paid a courtesy call to South Africa Vice-President Kgalema Mothlante. He then visited the Sanofi production site in Mamelodi, Pretoria where Sanofi produces ARVs and TB medication for the South African and world markets. Thereafter he paid a visit to Soweto, where he toured the Hector Pieterson Museum and Mandela House on Vilakazi Street.

The visit was a resounding success, reinforcing the close ties shared between France and South Africa and highlighting the depth of our relations, not only in the political realm, but also in business, tourism, cultural exchanges, academic cooperation, scientific research and agricultural development, to name a few.
